DANBURY –– The complexities of carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injuries will be explored at the next Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting on Tuesday, May 13. The program will take place in the Danbury Hospital auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue, from 7 to 8:30 pm.

According to the National Institute of Health, women are three times more likely than men to develop carpal tunnel syndrome, most likely because the carpal tunnel itself may be smaller in women than in men. The hand used most frequently is usually affected first and produces the most severe pain. People with diabetes or other metabolic disorders that directly affect the body’s nerves and make them more susceptible to compression are also at high risk. Carpal tunnel syndrome usually occurs only in adults.

Featured speakers will be Drs Lionel Brown and John Lunt, attending physicians in the Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, Section of Orthopedics/Hand, practicing physicians at The Hand Center of Western Connecticut, and Tina Steen, an occupational therapist at The Hand Center. They will discuss prevention, diagnosis, and effective treatments for carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injuries.

Geri Kaiser, practice administrator of The Hand Center, will facilitate the evening program.
