Boulevard Sideswipe

Police are investigating a sideswipe accident in which the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident left the scene of the crash, thus evading responsibility.

The collision occurred about 3:28 pm on April 13 near 53 The Boulevard, at a hazardous section of roadway with two sharp curves where that street crosses above the Housatonic Railroad’s train tracks.

Police said a woman motorist was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy SUV carrying one passenger northward on The Boulevard, as a vehicle, which appeared to a black Saab sedan or coupe, was traveling southward.

The Saab crossed the road’s centerline and sideswiped the GMC, after which the Saab drove away. There were no injuries.

Police said the Saab driver appeared to be a white male with short, scruffy facial hair. The Saab would have moderate body damage to its front, left side, and rear end. That vehicle was last seen traveling southward on The Boulevard.    

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Matthew Hayes at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Backpack Stolen

Sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 pm on April 9, someone stole a black and yellow Vulcan-brand backpack that had been left on a bench at Newtown Skate Park at Dickinson Park, off Brushy Hill Road, according to police.

Police are investigating the backpack’s disappearance and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant on him, James Terhaar, 25, of Danbury went to the police station on the afternoon of April 13 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, a stop sign violation, and driving under suspension, police report.

The underlying motor vehicle charges stem from a December 2010 incident, according to police. Following processing, police released Terhaar on $500 bail for an April 27 court appearance.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Francis McNellis, 77, of 18 Bryan Lane was driving a 1995 Honda Accord northward near 224 South Main Street about 5:08 pm April 7, when he stopped in preparing to make a left turn, police said.

Northbound motorist Maria Horvath, 49, of 220 South Main Street, who was driving a 1996 Chrysler LHS sedan, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

Police said Horvath received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Honda Vs Toyota

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Brennan Road and Currituck Road about 1:43 pm April 14.

Motorist Matthew Grillo, 26, of Mamaroneck, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan, was traveling on Brennan Road and then stopped at its intersection with Currituck Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Peter Walrath, 62, of Brookfield was driving a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Currituck Road, according to police.

The Honda then pulled onto Currituck Road and the two vehicles collided, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Grillo an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Birch Hill Road

Police report they are investigating an unspecified one-vehicle accident that occurred about 3:30 pm on April 16 on Birch Hill Road, near its intersection with Cannon Drive. The driver of the unknown vehicle left the scene of the accident after it occurred, not reporting the incident and thus evading responsibility. Police ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them at 203-426-5841.

 

Four MV Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Diego DeOliveira, 24, of New Milford on Hawleyville Road, near Barnabas Road, about 6:20 pm on April 17 to investigate.

Police said they charged the driver with having tinted automotive windows without a permit, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving with a suspended license, and driving a vehicle without a license.

Police released DeOliveira on $100 bail for a May 3 court appearance.

Church Hill Road

Police report they stopped motorist Elyse Clark, 41, of 4 Glenmor Drive near 42 Church Hill Road about 9:38 am April 14 to investigate.

Police said they charged Clark with using a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.

Also, police said they held a warrant against Clark in connection with a past incident. On that warrant, police charged Clark with failure to respond to an infraction and with making a restricted turn.

Clark was released on bail for an April 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Jackknife Incident

About 11:52 am on April 11, a pickup truck, which was hauling a trailer, jackknifed near Ferris Acres Creamery at 144 Sugar Street (Route 302), police report.

Police said that Steven Yacko, 22, of 22 Hyvue Drive was driving a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck, which was hauling a trailer, eastward on Sugar Street when the trailer started swaying behind the truck, causing the truck and trailer to jackknife and then collide with an embankment along the westbound road shoulder.

Yacko was not injured. Police said they issued Yacko six violations. Yacko received an infraction on charges of driving a vehicle with a gross weight exceeding 9,999 pounds, driving with defective brakes, failure to have emergency brakes on a trailer, and failure to secure a load, police said. Also, Yacko received a written warning for making a restricted turn and for failure to renew a trailer registration.

Buick Vs Subaru

About 3 pm on April 14, motorist Linda Warner, of 2 Timber Mill Road, who was driving 1999 Buick sedan, was waiting behind motorist Kelly Goodridge, of 8 Mt Pleasant Terrace, on westbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Main Street, police said.

The Buick then moved forward, striking the rear bumper of the Subaru, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Warner a written warning for following too closely.

High Bridge Road

Police said that at about 6:08 pm on April 14, they observed motorist Lisa Schack, 44, of 90 Engleside Terrace driving a vehicle that was exceeding the posted speed limit near 42 High Bridge Road, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they charged Schack with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Police said Schack was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 28.
