Andrew P. Sedor,                     Dairy Farmer, Dies At 87

Andrew Paul Sedor, 87, a life-long resident of Currituck Road, Newtown, and a well-known and respected dairy farmer, died January 24 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Sedor was the beloved husband of the late Josephine R. (Zecowski) Sedor.

He was born in the family home on Currituck Road on January 9, 1914, a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Hercha) Sedor. He resided in the little white saltbox his entire life, working his farm. He had many wonderful stories to share of his life growing up and living in Newtown. He loved the town and its history. Mr Sedor was one of the first students to attend Hawley School. He recalled walking past Mary Hawley’s home on Main Street and seeing the beautiful gardens.

Mr Sedor was a member of the Fairfield County Farm Bureau and the Pootatuck Grange, a member and former chief of the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Russian Fraternity. He was awarded the Corn King for Fairfield County for two consecutive years. Mr Sedor was one of the last dairy farmers in Newtown. His father purchased the farmhouse in 1906.

He was one of the first drivers for the Newtown Ambulance Association. Mr Sedor served for many years on the Newtown Republican Town Committee.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Benhardt and her husband, Terence, of Merrimack, N.H., and Paula Collins and her husband, Robert, of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; one brother, Michael Sedor of Newtown; one grandson, Andrew Benhardt; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral liturgy was held January 30 at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church in Danbury, where Mr Sedor was a member. A Panchida Service was held at the funeral home on January 29.

A memorial service will be held in Newtown at a later date.

Interment will be in Land’s End Cemetery, Newtown, in the spring.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
