Newtown Blue 16, Shepaug 14: Despite being their first game, members of the Newtown Blue team played confidently and did not display any opening day jitters. With the lead alternating in almost every inning, the back and forth game was in doubt until Newtown scored five runs in its last at bat to seal the victory. Cassidy Datin helped preserve the win with key defensive plays. Abby Clarke pitched well the final two innings and did not falter when Shepaug threatened in its last at bat.
Newtown Hawks 17, Bethel Blast 4: Zoe Beals walked 7 batters but only allowed 2 hits in the victory. The 17 runs were driven in behind the big bats of Isabella Luciano (2 RBI), Jackie Gouveia (3), Tegan Doherty (4), and Zoe Beals (4).
Wicked 11, Hawks 6: Sydney Flint pitched a great game, allowing only one walk through the first five innings when the Hawks. In the sixth, the Wicked picked up five runs to build a six-run lead. Jillian Lasora ripped a triple in the defeat. Catcher Rylee Mulligan assisted in picking off four batters/runners in the game and went 1-for-3. âShoeless Sammieâ Strocchia had a couple of walks and stole three bases.
Connecticut Seahawks 6, Hawks 0: The Hawks could only muster five hits in the six inning shutout. Emily Bell played well at third base and Jackie Gouveia went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Hawks 8, Ridgefield Tigers 6: Sydney Flint stuck out a season high 12 batters. Cassidy Keller went 1-for-3 and stole two bases, Rachel OâGrady went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, and Rylee Mulligan went 2-for-4 and drove in three. The Hawks improved their league record to 4 and 3 and have 5 games scheduled this week.
