Berkshire Crash

Police report that a two-vehicle accident occurred about 11 am on August 21 near 42 Berkshire Road (Route 34).

Police said that motorist Salah Elgamal, 31, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai sedan northward on Berkshire Road, told them that he swerved in order to avoid colliding with a southbound noncontact vehicle that had entered the northbound lane.

Police added Elgamal told them that he overcorrected while making the maneuver and then entered the southbound lane, colliding head-on with southbound motorist Ronald Santiago, 50, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Buick coupe.

Ambulance volunteers transported Santiago to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident.

Police issued Elgamal an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for driving without a license.
