Chapin And His Music Coming To

New Fairfield For Two Different Shows

NEW FAIRFIELD — On Saturday, February 28, New Fairfield Friends of Music will present two concerts featuring the singer and songwriter Tom Chapin.

An afternoon concert, “Tom Chapin and Friends,” will begin at 2 pm and will feature timeless songs suitable for children ages 4 to 11.

“An Evening of Chapin Music,” beginning at 8 pm, will feature Mr Chapin and his friends and family singing the Chapin classics as well as new music of love, protest and discovery.

Both concerts will be held at New Fairfield High School and all proceeds will benefit the music and drama programs in the schools.

Tom Chapin is a gifted entertainer who charms audiences of all ages. Parents Magazine calls him “the Pied Piper of children’s music.”

Mr Chapin and his collaborators – John Forster, Michael Mark and Jon Cobert – have penned songs that have become children’s classics, including “This Pretty Planet”, “Mother Earth” and “Billy the Squid.”

Mr Chapin’s tenth family recording, Making Good Noise, was released in September 2003.

Mr Chapin’s adult concerts and recordings are sparked by strong, intelligent songwriting with clear, engaging vocals and the intricate, melodic guitar work that has become his trademark.

He has recorded seven albums of adult material, including Life is Like That, In the City of Mercy, Let Me Back Into Your Life, So Nice to Come Home, and Join the Jubilee, his first live concert album.

Another live album, Doing Our Job, was recorded with John McCutcheon.  A solo adult recording, Common Ground, was released in February 2001.

Mr Chapin is a contributor to national Public Radio’s “Morning Edition,” creating and performing topical songs poking fun at social and scientific trends in the news.

In addition to singing and songwriting, Tom Chapin works tirelessly on behalf of many charitable organizations.  He has joined Save The Children in its mission to make lasting positive changes in the lives of disadvantaged children in the United States and around the world. He is also on the board of directors of World Hunger Year, a hunger organization founded in 1975 by Mr Chapin’s late brother, the singer, songwriter and humanitarian Harry Chapin.

Tickets for “Tom Chapin and Friends” (the early concert) are $15 general admission.  Doors will open at 1:15.

Tickets for “An Evening of Chapin Music”  are $25 general admission, with special Gold Seating available for $40 which include front rows reserved seating and a post-concert cocktail party with the performers.
