The Newtown Soccer Club invites interested boys and girls currently registered in the in-house E and F divisions to attend a 10-week indoor winter training session direction by Newtown High School boysâ and girlsâ varsity coaches, Brian Neumeyer and John Kostelis. The training will beging Monday, January 3, and will be held from 4 to 5:30 pm at the Hawley School gymnasium. Be sure to bring sneakers or indoor shoes as well as shin guards and water. No cleats will be permitted on the gym floor.
Soccer Club Referee Class

A seven-week course for anyone wishing to become a soccer referee is being offered by the Newtown Soccer Club. Classes will be held Tuesdays, February 15 through April 4, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Newtown Middle School. Attendance at each class is mandatory. Pre-registration is also required. Participants must be at least 12 years of age at the time of registration. Class size is limited. Fee is $55, but applicants who complete the test with a passing grade will receive a refund. U16 Travel Softball

A 16-and-under girlsâ traveling softball team (name still undetermined) will be holding tryouts for the summer 2000 season. Any players interested in participating should call Frank Bonacci at 426-3361 for further details on sites and times.
Striker Indoor Winter Classic

The Sherman Soccer Club will host its third annual Striker Indoor Soccer Winter Classic tournament on Saturday and Sunday, January 30, at the OâNeill Center on the campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. Each team will be guaranteed five games, playing on a point system for the final match. Call Don Murphy at 1-203-266-0515 for information.

All-Star Basketball Camp

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All-Star Basketball Camp, open to boys and girls ages 7 to 19. Players are selected by invitation only. Past participants of the camp reportedly include Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Antawn Jamison, Christian Laettner, Tom Gugliotti and Trajan Langdon.
