Never Forget
Never Forget
To the Editor:
I am not terrified by anthrax. I am not terrified by smallpox. I believe we must be vigilant, calm and understand there are new threats to our personal livesâ¦but we must not represent what the terrorists dream ofâ¦bringing us to our knees in terror, fear and disorder.
This does not mean I feel no terror, for indeed I do. Terror to me comes in the form of loss of patriotism. In the first few weeks after 9-11 one could see this nation coming together. Bipartisan politics seemed frozen as all in Washingtonâs political circles stood together.
I am terrified that our churches, temples, and mosques will gradually diminish in number of worshippers. In the first few weeks after 9-11 there was clear evidence that people searched for answers, turning to their Deity.
I am terrified that we will forget what happened to those innocent people aboard flights bound for destinations they never reached, and for the workers and visitors in New York and Washington.
I am terrified that we will forget that some very brave passengers took a stand to defend their nation from greater harm in Pennsylvania.
We must never forget.
Respectfully,
Charline Grafton
