The Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships, typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application. The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships. If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises that he or she first check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov, 877-FTC-HELP; the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org, 800-876-7060; or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbg.org or 703-276-0100.
Newtown Bridle Lanes Association, Inc 2004 Memorial Scholarship â In memory of Linda Souza, NBLA, Inc offers a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Newtown High School or The Ellis Clark Regional Agri-Science and Technical Center who is a resident of Newtown or has a parent or guardian who is a current member of the NBLA, Inc. The applicant must also be accepted to a post high school program leading to a degree in equine science, veterinary science or the environmental sciences including agriculture, animal husbandry, ecological studies, or forestry. Deadline is April 9.
Newtown Girlâs Softball Association â A $1,000 scholarship opportunity is offered for a high school senior girl who played girls softball in Newtown. A transcript and a 300-word essay are required with the application. Deadline is April 16.
The Hannah Griswold Grant â This $750 renewable grant is awarded by The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International to a graduating minority senior from a Connecticut high school planning to major in education. The applicant must demonstrate the qualities consistent with the promise of leadership in education, including scholarship and community service. Deadline is March 24.
The Elizabeth Sonier Grant â This $750 renewable grant from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is awarded to a graduating senior planning to major in music education. Deadline is March 24.
Fairfield County Farm Bureau Association, Inc. Award â A $1,000 award will be presented to a deserving Fairfield County young person age 16â25 who is involved in numerous and various aspects of agriculture. The applicants are requested to attend the annual Fairfield County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in October. Applications must be postmarked by April 12.
