Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multi-Purpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of The Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

You may drop in at the Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Wal-Mart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

This Week’s Programs

*Thanksgiving at MOUNT HAVEN RESORT in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, November 12. Enjoy a breakfast buffet, full day of activities, including bingo, and later feast at a dinner buffet with a four-hour open bar. Depart at 8 am; cost is $73.

*QUILTS OF VALOR and open house with music by Robert Clark and refreshments on Thursday, November 13, 2 to 4 pm.

Upcoming Programs

*COMMISSION ON AGING will be Monday, November 17

*JERRY KING LIVE entertains with hit songs from Broadway and the movies on Tuesday, November 18, at 1 pm.

*Play BINGO on Wednesdays, November 19 and 26, at 1 pm.

*BLOOD PRESSURE check will be Wednesday, November 19, at 1:30 pm.

*DINNER AND A MOVIE on Wednesday, November 19, from 4 to 6 pm. Cost is $5 and bring a dessert to share.

*AARP Driver Safety Program, Thursday and Friday, November 20 and 21, 12:30 to 4:30 pm, refresher course. You must attend both days. A fee of $10 is payable first day of class.

*Share some of the most memorable moments in dramatic literature with Richard Clark as he recreates Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits on Tuesday, December 9, at 1 pm.

*ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY at The Waterview on Thursday, December 11, from 11 am to 3 pm. Enjoy music and entertainment, gourmet buffet, 50/50 raffle, and champagne toast. Cost is $35; call for reservations 270-4310.

Tickets are still available for the following day trips.

*Have lunch and see A WONDERFUL LIFE at Westchester Broadway Theatre on Thursday, November 20; depart at 9 am; cost is $85.

*CHRISTMAS IN HAWAII show at the Hun Key Lau Restaurant and Dinner Theater in Chicopee, Mass., Wednesday, December 3. Enjoy lunch, Polynesian dancers, and Christmas songs. Next stop is to the Christmas Tree Shop and then onto Bright Nights at Forest Park, with 2½ miles of lighted Christmas displays. Depart at 9:45 am; cost is $68.

*See the UConn Women’s Basketball Team at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, December 14, at 2:30 pm. The ticket also includes admission to the Rutgers vs Army game at noon. Time of departure is to be announced.

*Ace in the Hole presents BIG BAND NEW YEAR’S BASH on Tuesday, December 30, in North Haledon, N.J. A New Year’s Eve party in the afternoon with lunch, favors, balloons, champagne toast, daylong dancing, and comedian Danny Curtis. Depart at 8:45; $94 per person.

*YOGA classes are Monday and Thursday at 10:30 am.

*Billiards room; poker/card room; ping pong; and Wii bowling, golf, tennis, and baseball.

*Wii BOWLING, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons.

*CARDS FOR OUR TROOPS every Tuesday morning from 10 am to noon and 1 to 3 pm.

*BEGINNERS BRIDGE LESSONS on Wednesday, 9:30 am, with Mary Matern.

*BOARD GAME DAY is every Thursday at 1 pm. Coffee or tea and snack will be supplied.

*MOVIE TIME on Fridays at 1 pm. Enjoy a good “favorite” movie with a friend. We supply the video and popcorn.

Monday: AM pinochle, hatha yoga, exercise, PM computer classes, chorus group.

Tuesday: AM pinochle, country-western line dancing; PM Tai Chi & Chi Kung, bowling, walking for fitness, computer classes, crafts.

Wednesday: AM exercise; PM bingo, crafts.

Thursday: AM Breakfast Club, hatha yoga, cards; PM bowling, walking for fitness, board games.

Friday: AM advanced mah jongg, sewing, quilting, PM knitting, cards.

Menu For Week Of 

November 10–14

Monday: All-American hamburger on a roll topped with pickles, tomatoes, and ketchup, baked beans, creamy coleslaw, cherry pie.

Tuesday: Closed in honor of Veterans’ Day.

Wednesday: Succulent pork loin with gravy, Louisiana rice, diced carrots, seedless rye bread, fruit cocktail.

Thursday: Beef tips with mushrooms served over egg noodles, broccoli and cauliflower, wheat bread, diet fruited Jell-O with whipped topping.

And for planning ahead—

Monday: November 17: Chili with beans served over half baked potato, corn niblets, cornbread, butterscotch pudding with whipped topping.

Tuesday: November 18: New England clam chowder, cold cut grinder with salami, ham and cheese on grinder roll with lettuce and mustard, coleslaw vinaigrette, mandarin oranges.
