Girl Power: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

DANBURY — Does your daughter complain of rumor spreading, backstabbing, or cliques? Does your daughter resort to aggressive, manipulative behaviors with peers? Are you a girl who has experienced the painful reality of girls’ unique form of bullying — as victim, perpetrator, or bystander? If you answered Yes to any of the above questions, you will want to attend a special community presentation and panel discussion on “Girl Power: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly” at the Danbury Hospital auditorium on Thursday, March 31, from 7 to 9 pm.

The program and panel discussion, sponsored by the Danbury Health Systems (DHS) Healthy Kids Collaborative (staff affiliated with area social service agencies, civic and youth organizations), is dedicated to helping girls and their parents understand girls’ aggression and types of bullying.

Admission and parking is free in the Blue Visitors’ Parking Lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.

The program features guest speaker Rachel Simmons, author of The New York Times bestseller, Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls. Ms Simmons will discuss the issues associated with girls’ aggression and types of bullying to help parents, students, educators, and providers become more aware of the prevalence of girls’ aggressive behaviors.                    Following the keynote address, a panel discussion featuring staff from local area resources will offer answers to audience questions.

Seating is limited; preregistration by is required by March 25. Register via email at pubrel@danhosp.org or call the Danbury Hospital Marketing and Public Relations Department at 797-7490.
