All in all, it was a strong couple of games with the same result for Newtown High School’s girls’ soccer team. The Nighthawks earned a 1-1 draw with unbeaten Pomperaug of Southbury on October 22, then settled for a 1-1 deadlock with visiting Bethel on October 27; both games took place at Blue & Gold Stadium.

Newtown High School’s cross country teams hosted Immaculate of Danbury on October 23. The boys won their race 19-38 and the girls fell 25-30 to the Mustangs.

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team defeated the Bethel-Immaculate of Danbury co-op 97-74 on October 23.

The Nighthawk field hockey team remained one of the undefeated Newtown High School teams, along with girls' volleyball and boys' soccer, heading into the final two weeks of the South-West Conference regular season. Newtown defeated Watertown 4-0 at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 21, for its eighth consecutive win and second triumph over the Indians this season.

Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team remained unbeaten at 9-0 heading into a Wednesday, October 28, scheduled match with New Milford. The Nighthawks had a run of six consecutive 3-0 wins snapped but prevailed 3-2 over host Pomperaug of Southbury on October 21, then bested host Bethel 3-0 on October 26.

Newtown High School’s football and cheerleading teams had their Senior Night festivities delayed when the scheduled Senior Night football game between Newtown and New Fairfield on October 23 was postponed due to possible coronavirus exposure in New Fairfield.

Newtown High School’s boys’ soccer team is undefeated six games into the regular season behind new Head Coach Ryan Lyddy. The team continued to defend its home turf with a 1-1 tie against the visiting Rebels of New Fairfield at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 15, then shut out host Abbott Tech of Danbury 4-0 on October 20.

After settling for a pair of ties and enduring two hard-fought 1-0 setbacks to begin the slate, the new-look Newtown High School girls’ soccer team got its first taste of victory this fall with a 3-1 triumph at New Fairfield on October 15. The team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Immaculate of Danbury at Treadwell Park on October 19 with a 1-0 triumph over visiting Masuk of Monroe, at Blue & Gold Stadium, the next afternoon.

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams competed in Bethel against the Wildcats on October 20. The Nighthawk girls came out on top 24-31, led by second-place finisher Courtney Henchcliffe, who competed the course in a time of 21:32.47.

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team had another record-setting performance. Coming off a meet in which the Nighthawks set a pair of pool event records, the team’s 200-yard medley relay team of Caroline Mahoney, Cate Fischer, Brianna Deierlein, and Payton Bradley set the pool record with a time of 1:55.31 during Newtown’s meet with Pomperaug of Southbury on October 15.
