The Resiliency Center of Newtown (RCN) has a pair of programs coming up within the next few weeks that it would like residents to be aware of.

Camp Sea Stars North is a trauma-informed summer camp opportunity for the children of Newtown and Sandy Hook.

In the wake of 12/14, CampGroup is proud to provide these children with the healing and camaraderie that is possible through a positive camp experience. The goal is simple: help the kids of Newtown heal through summer camp.

Born out of a collective brainstorm by CampGroup professionals and co-founded with the Camp Phoenix Foundation Inc., Camp Sea Stars North embraces CampGroup’s mission to enrich children’s lives. Camp Sea Stars North will be staffed by volunteers from CampGroup camps.

In addition, Sea Stars North will be working with The Resiliency Center of Newtown, who will serve as the liaison to eligible local families and will assist with the emotional needs of this unique camp population.

During the week of August 15-19, CampGroup will host children from Newtown at Camp Danbee in Hinsdale, Mass. Selected Newtown children ages 7-16 will be offered a five day summer camp experience, free of charge

RCN will host two parent information sessions, on Tuesday, January 12, at 10 am, and Thursday, February 11, at 6 pm. Interested parents are encouraged to attend one of the meetings to learn more about Camp Sea Stars North.

For an application to Camp Sea Stars North contact Stephanie Cinque, founder and executive director of RCN, at 203-364-9750 or stephanie@resiliencycenterofnewtown.org.

In addition, the next RCN monthly coffee hour will be Wednesday, January 13, from 10-11:30 am.

This month’s guest will be Carla Barzetti, from Brilliant Souls. Her coffee hour topic will be “Spiritual Soul Searching: Part II.” Ms Barzetti will talk with anyone interested about getting in touch with their true self in the course of everyday life — not having to meditate and set aside time they don’t think they have, to do that “work.”

The intention of Ms Barzetti’s talk will be to help people become more present, calm down, and enjoy their lives more deeply, to “process” their soul work as they walk through their mainstream existence.

Ms Barzetti is familiar with The Resiliency Center of Newtown, having done several guided healing meditations during the past year. She will bring her calm, spiritual nature here once again to share with the entire community.

The Resiliency Center of Newtown is at 153 South Main Street; entry is through the building’s lower rear level. Call 203-364-9750 or visit resiliencycenterofnewtown.org for additional information.

Founded in the aftermath of 12/14, The Resiliency Center of Newtown has a full day of special offerings, including crisis counseling, planned for the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook School shootings. Residents can take advantage of the programs free of charge.
