To many members of both the LGBTQ+ and disability communities, the intersection between Queerness and Disability may not be obvious. But for people who identify as both queer and disabled, this particular intersectional identity can strongly inform their understandings of self, others, and God.

Members of the United Church of Christ (UCC) Disabilities Ministries Board are planning a virtual 60-minute program, “Queerness & Disability: Showing Up As Our Full Selves.” The board members will discuss invisible identities, self discovery, and living outside the box.

The free program is part of UCC’s ongoing Thursdays For The Soul series. Registration is required for the program link, and can be done through UCC.org/event. “Queerness & Disability” will begin at 3:30 pm.

Upcoming Thursdays For The Soul programs include “Let Us Worship As One,” January 20, with the Rev Dr Cheryl Lindsay, minister for worship and theology for the national setting of the United Church of Christ; “Vibrant Re-Entry and Voter’s Rights: Desmond Meade,” January 27, with Rev Traci Blackmon and Desmond Meade — the latter a formerly incarcerated civil rights activist and recent MacArthur Genius Grant awardee — as they discuss the church’s role in welcoming returning citizens; and “United Black Christians Celebration of Black History Month,” February 3, joining United Black Christians of the United Church of Christ for an hour of praise and worship in commemoration for Afro Descendant/Black History Month.

Registration for each of these and information on additional programs in the series can be found through the website above.
