The Genealogy Club of Newtown’s meeting and program scheduled for tonight at C.H. Booth Library has been cancelled. The cancellation is a result of water pipes that burst and damaged many areas of the 25 Main Street location last Saturday afternoon. All programs hosted by the library have been cancelled.

The club was to have hosted Harlan Jessup this month. Mr Jessup was planning to speak on “Getting There Is Half The Fun: Genealogy Libraries in Connecticut and The Hudson Valley.”

“When we found out how extensive the damage was, we looked around, and decided that it was too late in the game to find another location.  We are going to cancel the meeting for this month,” said Bea Morgan, a spokesperson for The Genealogy Club of Newtown.

Newtown Historical Society is the one group so far that has been able to reschedule a program it had planned to offer at the library. Town Historian Dan Cruson, who was to offer his annual lecture on January 13 in the library’s lower meeting room, will instead present the program on Monday night at Newtown Meeting House. The free program will begin at 7:30, as originally planned.
