Gymnasts Kick Off Campaign

Newtown High School’s gymnastics squad had its first meet of the season when the Nighthawks participated in the Pomperaug Invitational in Southbury on January 4. Newtown, with a score of 128.8, placed fourth among 13 teams.

Daniel Hand of Madison won the meet with a score of 140.7, Fairfield Ludlowe was second with a score of 131.55, Farmington came in third with a score of 130.45, and Glastonbury was edged out by Newtown and placed fifth with a score of 127.15.

Newtown’s highlights are as follows: Elisha Wilson: Vault 8.4, bars 8.5 and fifth place, balance beam 8.9 and fourth place, floor 9.05 and seventh place, all around 34.85 and seventh place. Kaitlyn Tumney: Vault 8.5 and floor 8.4. Anna Jannott: Vault 8.2 and floor 8.2. Cameron Vazquez: Floor 8.2. Jenny Indelicato: Vault 8.35.

Newtown will host Southington at Kinetic Kids in Oxford for a 7 pm meet on Friday, January 10.
