Track Squads Participate In Elm City Coaches Invite

Members of Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams competed in the Elm City Coaches Invite at Hillhouse High School in New Haven on January 10. Highlights are as follows:

Girls

The 4x800 meter relay squad, of Erin Tressler, Emma Bayuk, Camryn Ciccarelli, and Jess Keller, improved its state qualifying time to 10:27.24. The sprint medley relay team of Shay Fahey, Makenna Cerney, Shelby Tolla, and Emma Bayuk improved its state qualifying time to 4:38.73.

Nicole Russo qualified for States in 300 in a time of 47.14. Sarah Houle qualified for states in the 300 with a time of 46.79. Jess Keller qualified for states in the 600 with a time of 1:48.54. Erin Tressler improved her state qualifying time in the 1600 to 5:34.43. Kiera Viellette improved her South-West Conference qualifying pole vault jumo to 7-0. Maddie Findley improved her SWC qualifying time in the 1000 to 3:32.11.

Boys

Joel Duval improved his SWC qualifying time for the 1000 by running a time of 2:54.33. Christian Lestik qualified for SWC championships in the 1000 with a time of 2:57.73. Kevin Arther became the first Nighthawk to qualify for the SWC Championships in the 600 by running a time of 1:36.01. Cole Terry improved his Class LL championship qualifying time in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.85. Gus Porto qualified for the SWC championships with a time of 7.14 in the 55 dash. David Csordas qualified for the Class LL championships in the 3200 with a time of 9:36.07 with his effort in the 3000 which equals a 10:18.41 3200 conversion. Connery Mayer qualified for the SWC championships in the long jump, with a jump of 17-1. Dylan Lew qualified for the SWC championships in the pole vault, with a vault of 9-6.
