Gold Diggers, Oz, J Buck’s Punchers, Warsaw Elite, Ghost Face Killaz, Killer Smurfs and Kooter’s Coyotes – okay, there may be an abundance (or over-abundance) of off-the-wall nicknames but it all comes down to basketball in the Parks and Recreation Department’s Senior League.

It’s been another successful season for the boys and girls so far and what follows is a round-up of the league to date:

 

SENIOR BOYS

 

GOLD DIGGERS 55, OZ 55: Tim Byrne and Tim LaPak scored nine points apiece to pace the Gold Diggers while Tim Barrett scored 15 points and Peter Engel scored 12 more to lead Oz.

BLAZERS 72, HIT SQUAD 45: Mark Werbeck canned 21 points and Kevin Carolan added 10 to lead the Blazers over the Hit Squad. For the Squad, Brian Rodden and Allen Popowski scored 14 points each.

J BUCK’S PUNCHERS 69, WARSAW ELITE 35: Jon Werbeck scored 24 points and Pat McCarthy added 15 more as J Buck’s Punchers upended the Warsaw Elite. JT Everett had 10 assists, Greg Britton had eight steals, and Matt McCarthy grabbed 10 rebounds. For the Elite, John Toi had 10 points and Matt Lynch played well at both ends of the floor.

NOLES 79, WARSAW ELITE 67: Andrew Rote scored 13 points and Tom Fullman grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Noles to the win. Dan Maley had 12 assists and Wes Steinfeld had nine steals. For the Warsaw, Todd Winner scored 14 points and Jon Toi added 10 while Micah Uhrlass, Amia Tatake and Aaron Coopersmith had good games.

GOLD DIGGERS 50, DEACONS 48: David Roodhuyzen scored 16 points and Tim LaPak added 15 to lead the Gold Diggers to the win. For the Deacons, M. Terry scored 19 points while K. Adams, M. Giesen and Tim Finlayson had good games.

J BUCK’S PUNISHERS 58, POUNDS 51: Matt McCarthy scored 18 points and Jon Werbeck added 17 to lead J Buck’s to another win. Matt DeLuca grabbed 16 rebounds while Greg Britton dished off six assists and JT Everett had eight steals. For the Pounds, Chris Arnold and Jeff LaFlamme canned 15 points apiece while Brian Budnick had four steals and Dan Raymond had 12 boards.

GHOST FACE KILLAZ 51, KRYPTONITE 44: John Pantan canned 18 points and Grant Putnam grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Killaz. Greg Taylor had six assists and Jon Lambo made five steals. For the Kryptonite, Tom Paloian had nine points and Eric Hastedt had 13 boards. Anthony Mason and Nick Schork both had solid games.

SENIOR GIRLS

 

KILLER SMURFS 35, JOLLY GREEN GIANTS 28: Mary Bell tossed in 15 points and Becky McCullough and Carrie Young played well to lead the Blue to victory. For the Green, Kristen McGrath and Kari Frawley tossed in six points apiece. Katie Miller and Laura Willing played well.

THUNDERCATS 42, BLAZIN’ BOOTIES 20: Whitney Blanchard canned 14 points as the Thundercats rolled over Red. Laura Howard and Kelli Peterman had solid games. For the Red, Kate Bouteiller scored 11 points while Caitlin Martin, Michele Nelson and Lorraine Narel had good floor games.

PURPLE SPLASH 24, KOOTER’S COYOTES 21: Colleen Davis dropped in 13 points as the Purple nipped the Orange. Kaitlin Barry and Monica Zigman led the Purple. For the Orange, Dana Martenson scored 11 points while Shannon Rouse and Mallory McQuail performed well.

BLAZIN’ BOOTIES 37, KOOTER’S COYOTES 33: Caitlin Martin, Michelle Nelson and Kate Bouteiller combined for 31 points as the Booties held off a run by the Coyotes. Jessica Kerns led the defense. For the Coyotes, Dana Martenson scored 23 points and nailed a three-pointer in the final two minutes that brought the Coyotes to within one.

PURPLE SPLASH 27, BLAZIN’ BOOTIES 19: Colleen Davis scored 11 points while Monica Zigman controlled the boards and Janie Zingoni led the defense to lead the Purple Splash to the win. For the Booties,Kerin Sovern, Lorraine Narel and Michelle Nelson played well.

KILLER SMURFS 36, KOOTER’S COYOTES 21: Carrie Young and Mary Bell combined for 32 points to lead the Smurfs to the win. Becky McCullough had five assists and Rabiya Ansari led the defense. For the Coyotes, Dana Martenson dropped in 19 points while Mallory McQuail and Caroline Kunkel combined for 11 more. Ali Smith rustled up six rebounds.

THUNDERCATS 28,  JOLLY GREEN GIANTS 19: The Thundercats broke open a close game with 15 fourth-quarter points enroute to the win. Erin Saunders scored 11 and Whitney Blanchard brought down 12 rebounds. For the Giants, Kristen McGrath scored six points while Lauren Blomberg and Katie Lahey played well.
