WATERBURY – The recent outbreak of the Equine Herpes Virus-1 has caused great concern among the equestrian community all over the United States.

To provide an update on the status of the disease in Connecticut, the Equine Resources Committee at Post University will convene a panel of experts – including the State Veterinarian Dr Mary Jane Lis – for an information session on Friday, February 9, at 7:15 pm, at the Drubner Center off Exit 17, I-84, in Waterbury.

The session will be held in Room 201.

The panel will give the latest overview on EHV-I – how it develops, the symptoms and treatments, as well as preventative measures. There will be information on the status of quarantines in the state and, very importantly, how to control the spread of this disease. In fact the panel will also discuss issues connected with the overall handling of horses to prevent the spread of any communicable disease now and in the future.

The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer period.

Tickets are available for the price of $10 at the door (Post students get in FREE). Proceeds will benefit equine scholarships at Post University.

For further information, call 203-596-4631 or email CBaker@post.edu.

The program is ideal for Pony Club members working on upgrading their tests, for instructors working on certification, or just riders interested in learning more.

All talks will be supported by handouts, power-point presentations and videos, and provide an opportunity to learn from the top experts.

Fees for the weekend are $15/day or $20 for weekend for youths; $25/day or $40 for weekend for adults (adults who bring five or more attendees get in free). Meals are $10 at the campus Dining Hall and all meals must be paid in advance (make checks payable to Dressage4Kids, Inc. and mail to Lendon Gray, 25 Lake Avenue, Bedford, NY 10506).
