Gymnastics Squad Wins Close One

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team won a close one, edging host New Milford 136.850 to 136.300 on January 25.

Renee Chard was second in the all around with a score of 35.250; she had an 8.4 on vault, 8.8 on bars, 8.9 on the balance beam, and 9.15 on the floor.

Lauren Young came in third in the all around with a 34.550; Young recorded an 8.55 on vault, 8.05 on bars, 8.7 on beam, and 9.25 for her floor exercise.

Addie Sullivan was fourth with an all around score of 33.950; she scored an 8.45 on vault, 8.7 on bars, 8.5 on beam, and 8.3 on floor.

Cyrena Arokium was eighth with an all around tally of 33.100; Arokium had an 8.3 on vault, 8.0 on bars, 8.7 on beam, and 8.1 on floor.

The South-West Conference championships are slated for Thursday, February 10, at New Milford High, starting at 5 pm. Then teams get back to regular-season meets before state competitions later in the month.
