PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – Peter Zingoni of Newtown is making his senior year with the Providence College ice hockey team count.

An eighth-round pick in the 2000 National Hockey League entry draft (selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets), Zingoni – a left winger –leads the Friars in goals scored (10) and is second in assists (14) and points (24). He has also taken a team-high 89 shots for the Friars, who were 11-9-6 overall (2-8-5 in the Big East, 8-1-1 out of conference) after a 3-2 win over UMass-Lowell on Saturday, January 31.

Zingoni has five multi-point games this year for the Friars, with his best being one goal, three assist effort in a 7-1 win over Quinnipiac on Friday, January 2. All three assists came in a four-goal first period. The goal came at 4:34 of the third period, fueled by assists from Chris Chaput and  Cody Loughlean.

Last year, Zingoni had a three-goal game against Sacred Heart.

Columbus – currently 15-27-7-3 in the Central Division of the Western Conference – has indicated that Zingoni made get a late-season shot with the Syracuse Crunch after the 2003-04 collegiate season is concluded but that Zingoni must continue to develop his play without the puck and to add a more physical element to his game.
