RIDGEFIELD — The Genealogy Club of Newtown invites anyone interested in genealogy to join its members for a short road trip this month.

Due to the temporary closing of Newtown’s town library, the club has been invited by Ridgefield Recreation Center to hold their meeting at that location instead. Newtown Genealogy Club will meet on Sunday, February 16, at 1:30 pm.

The recreation center is at 195 Danbury Road.

The guest speaker this month is Marian Wood, a member of the Newtown club, who will speak on “Local Genealogy Via Long Distance.”

The discussion will highlight specific online tools and techniques that can be used to trace ancestors almost anywhere in America. Guests will learn how to uncover local connections and clues to aid in their family search.

Ms Wood’s program will focus on state, county and town or city sources accessible through family search, genealogy message boards, local genealogy groups, local historians, Find a Grave, and Facebook genealogy groups.

Ms Wood is a professional marketer turned textbook author who has been tracing her family tree for more than 15 years. She is a longtime member of the Genealogy Club of Newtown and has also made presentations about genealogy to audiences in Southbury, New Milford, and Westchester.

As always there will be refreshments. Guests are welcome to arrive early to have conversations with others searching for their family histories.
