Margaret Miner, the director of Rivers Alliance of Connecticut, will be the guest speaker for The Town & Country Garden Club on Wednesday, February 11.

Ms Miner will cover three topics during her program: landscaping and buffers to protect water quality, pesticides, and statewide water planning.

The program will begin at 6:30 pm, and is open to all. It will be at Newtown Senior Center, within the multi-purpose building at 14 Riverside Road.

Once she covers the first topic, Ms Miner speak briefly on limiting pesticides, which has, she says, “been a cause of war in the general assembly for three years.” She will also offer a concise description of what she calls “the most comprehensive water-protection initiative under way: statewide water planning.”

Margaret Miner is the Executive Director of Rivers Alliance of Connecticut, the state’s single nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting all of the state’s waters.  She also serves as co-chair of the Water Planning Council Advisory Group and is a member of the board of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters and of the state’s Natural Heritage Review Board.

Rivers Alliance and Ms Miner have received numerous honors, including an EPA Environmental Merit Award, the Connecticut Bar Association Environmental Law Section’s Annual Clyde O. Fisher Award, and the Connecticut Greenways Council Lifetime Achievement Award.
