Members of Newtown United Methodist Church gathered on February 6 for their second consecutive Tuesday to create valentines for those in the Armed Forces.

Dozens of cards were piled on tables in the church’s Fellowship Hall, where Coffee & Conversation this month included Valentine’s Day cards. Cards were being signed with simple notes of thanks and/or affirmations.

Conversations also carried on, and laughter regularly broke out.

The cards were added to those created thee previous week, added to a small collection received from The Lutheran Home of Southbury, and mailed out by the end of the week by NUMC member and event coordinator Anna Wiedemann. She worked, she said, with American Legion Post 202 Acting Commander Donna A. Monteleone to make sure the cards were mailed to one of the local Post's four military points of contact.
