Halloween celebrations have popped up across town the over the past couple of weeks, and The Newtown Bee has been there for many of them.

On Saturday, October 24, Christine’s Critters visited Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. Christine Peyreigne is pictured holding a ball python. The event, “Not So Spooky Anymore,” provided children an opportunity to learn more about “scary” animals, like snakes, tarantulas, and others, and demystified these creatures. —Bee Photo, Glass
Also on Saturday, October 24, Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) hosted its annual SHOP Halloween Walk in Sandy Hook Village. Members of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company’s Ladies Auxiliary were set up in front of PJ’s Laundromat to pass out candy to the visiting trick-or-treaters. —Bee Photo, Glass

On Sunday, October 25, Newtown Community Center held its annual Trunk-or-Treat event. Hundreds of children, along with their caregivers, attended the event. Lorraine Cyr, as the Grinch, and Lucia Fonseca, a/k/a Cindy Lou Who, made their own snowflakes with a snow machine to add another degree of realism to their trunk area, much to the delight of the trick-or-treaters. —Bee Photo, Glass

Hayrides were a popular attraction during Parks & Rec’s Hoot n’ Howl on October 23. The early evening event also included a dance party, inflatables, games including Ring Toss and Pumpkin Walk (think thematic Musical Chairs), craft tables, and plenty of tasty treats. —Bee Photo, Glass
Maestro Leif Bjaland speaks to the audience at Edmond Town Hall last Sunday afternoon, when Waterbury Symphony Orchestra performed “The Haunting of Edmond Town Hall.” The program was a delightful combination of classic and contemporary works performed by 30 members of the celebrated orchestra. The music director and conductor of WSO, Bjaland entered the concert space dressed as the building’s namesake, Judge William Edmond. The audience and many members of the orchestra also responded to the invitation to dress in costume.  —Bee Photo, Hicks
