Newtown United Methodist Church will host a Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner this month. If the thought of the traditional seasonal dinner isn’t enough of a draw, they hope to also entice diners with themed live music and dance.

Dinner will be served in the hall of the church, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook, on Saturday, March 9, from 4 to 7 pm. Cost is $17 for adults, $16 age 52 and up, and $8 for age 12 and under, for a full meal to include corned beef brisket, garden salad, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, dinner roll and dessert.

Guests this month are invited to eat in the hall or arrange for curbside pickup.

Those planning pickup need to make reservations in advance, while those who plan to eat in are asked to do the same.

Karan Goodhue, who is helping to organize the dinner, said, “it’s nice to have an idea of how many people we’ll be serving. Corned beef doesn’t freeze well, so we really appreciate reservations.”

Call Candace Rothe, at 203-217-9732, to make a reservation or for additional information.

Organizers ask those planning to attend — whether in person or through the take-out/curbside option — to consider donating to FAITH Food Pantry, to help those locally who face food insecurity.

While many NUMC dinner events have traditionally been followed by coffeehouse presentations, this month’s will differ because the music will be happening during dinner.

Pipe Major Jonathan Henken and bagpiper Chad Goodhue will be performing through much of the event.

Additionally, students from Ashurst School of Irish Dance will perform from 6 to 6:30 pm.
