A Winter Weather Advisory is currently in effect for Newtown, and the entire state. The sun may be shining at midday, but a Hazardous Weather Outlook is also in effect, with the National Weather Service calling for snow to begin falling after 4 pm Tuesday, March 3. Another 1-2 inches of snow may be on the ground before sunset.

Snow will be joined by freezing rain and sleet by 1 am, according to the weather service, which could create hazardous traveling conditions. The weather event is expected to continue into Wednesday, with rain possibly missing with freezing rain, until 9 am. A chance of rain continues into Wednesday.

Local organizations, groups, businesses, et al — anyone whose plans will be affected by the weather — are reminded that The Newtown Bee will post closing, postponement and cancellation notices as soon as they are received.
