Pennsylvania Avenue did not originally cross in front of the White House. The area was a public common for fairs and parades until 1822, when the street was built and Lafayette Park was established.

The schoolhouse seen in The Birds, in the scene where the children are fleeing the crows, is still standing in Balega, Calif. It is now a bed-and-breakfast.

Alfred Hitchcock and his wife, Alma, first spotted then-aspiring New York actress Tippi Hedren on a television commercial for a diet soft drink called Sego. Hedren later made her film debut in Hitchcock’s The Birds.

Rod Taylor, the male lead in the film The Birds, hailed from Sydney, Australia. He affected a convincing American affect for the film.

The first meeting between Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren, who would later star in Hitchcock’s The Birds, took place on Friday the 13th, 1962.

Of the thousands of birds that appeared in the film The Birds, many were real but scores were hand-painted directly onto the tiny frames of film. Alfred Hitchcock directed them all.

The making of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds was financed by the success of his television show, and film with equipment borrowed from his Revue Studio.

Because of the extensive special effects and technical problems involved, it took three years to make the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The Birds. It was completed and released in 1963.
