Henry T.          Gibson, Sr

Henry Taylor Gibson, Sr, 89, formerly of New Preston, died February 28 at Ashlar of Newtown.

Mr Gibson was born November 10, 1913, in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, Mass., the adoptive son of Mr and Mrs Charles B. Gibson, late of Washington. He grew up in Washington, and completed grammar school there. He was married to the late Harriet Emily Smith in 1934 and is survived by three sons, Charles B. Gibson of Fairfax, Va., Henry T. Gibson, Jr, of Summit, N.J., and Allen Gibson of Madison, N.J. His descendents include seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr Gibson was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriet, in 1991. He is survived by his second wife, Edna, of Newtown.

Mr Gibson’s early interests included piloting his Kitty Hawk biplane prior to his service in the US Navy during World War II. During his naval service, he served as a radioman first class and served on several ships including the USS Audrain in the Pacific theater. After his honorable discharge in November 1945, Henry returned home to the Northville section of New Milford where he resumed his employment as a carpenter. He later joined the Connecticut Light & Power Company from which he retired in 1974. Mr Gibson continued his many interests, including amateur radio and photography.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served for several years as the quartermaster of the local Andrew Mygatt chapter. As an avid gardener, he was a longtime member of the Housatonic Valley Pomona Grange.

After cremation, Mr Gibson’s remains will be interred in Upper Merryall Cemetery, New Milford.
