MONROE — On March 15, the Creative Music Center will host the “World’s Longest Community Jam Session” as part of its grand opening celebration. The event, which will also commemorate national Music in our Schools Month, will start at 9 am Saturday and go all day.

The Creative Music Center recently moved to its new home at 701 Main Street. The business, which was purchased by Liz Reisman in 2002, had doubled in both staff size and student levels, prompting Ms Reisman to commission a new store from ground up.

The 5,100-square-foot store boasts a retail area, ten state-of-the-art lesson rooms, and a multipurpose room.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our new home with this musical history-making event. Hopefully we will be able to draw attention to the importance of music in our schools while having a good old-fashioned jam at the same time,” Ms Reisman said.

To underscore the importance of music education, the Creative Music Center will donate a brand new horn from Conn-Selmer to Horns for Kids, a Connecticut-based organization that supports music education in the state by giving new and gently used horns to kids in need.

This event will also feature free refreshments provided by the Last Drop Coffee Shop in Monroe and door prizes, including lessons and even a new Peavey guitar. All musicians — student groups, teachers, small ensembles, strings, big brass bands — are invited to participate.

To sign up for a block of time, call the store at 261-7301; for more information, visit www.thecreativemusiccenter.com.
