Sheila Patricia Marjorie Roberto

Talented Native American Dancer

Sheila Patricia Marjorie Roberto, 46, died March 2 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on April 4, 1961, in Cape May Court House, N.J., and resided in Newtown. She was the wife of Christopher Roberto, who predeceased her.

Ms Roberto graduated from Newtown High School, worked in accounting positions, and most recently worked at Stop & Shop in Newtown.

One of her great passions was following the Native American traditions, and attending Powwows where she performed as a talented dancer. She also became skilled in the art of brain tanning deer hides, jewelry making, and numerous related crafts.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Theresa; her mother Patricia Gougelmann; her “Dad” Henry Gougelmann; and her mother-in-law, Patricia Roberto, all of Newtown. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Reidy and Arthur Cunningham of Falmouth, Mass., her sister Sherrie Miller and her husband, Arnold Miller, of Dexter, Maine; her brother Shawn McNally of Newtown; and her sister Suzanne Soterion of Waterbury. Her many nieces and nephews will miss her warm and loving ways, as will her numerous friends. She was predeceased by her father Jay McNally, and her brother Mickey McNally.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 8, from 1 to 3 pm at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully appreciated and may be made to the Theresa Roberto Trust Fund, c/o Webster Bank, 14 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.
