CIAC Cancels Winter Tournaments, Games Due To COVID-19 Concerns

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has announced it is canceling all remaining CIAC tournament games amid concerns about coronavirus/COVID-19.

Newtown Bee Sports Editor Andy Hutchison will be recapping this morning's CIAC press conference and announcement.

The CIAC yesterday had announced it was collaborating with the office of the Commissioner of Education (SDE) and Department of Public Health (DPH) to stay up to date on how the virus is impacting Connecticut schools.

According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health State Laboratory, as of 6 pm Monday, March 9:

2 patients have tested positive for coronavirus; 1 resides in Fairfield County, while the residence of the second has not yet been announced (information on that case will be available after the patient has been notified, according to the State of Connecticut’s dedicated page concerning Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19); and

54 patients have tested negative.
