Addresses Representatives On 6 Commerce
To the Editor:
Dear representatives, thank you for sponsoring SB00673. Eleven bills have hearings scheduled, but not SB00673. Tony, as you may remember, when you visited the NFA event on Holcombe Hill, you promised several of us that if you heard from the Board of Selectmen, you would see to it that 6 Commerce Road was able to be conserved as open space. You made similar promises to residents at recent town hall meetings. Not only did the residents convince the BOS to support this idea with a written request to all of you, but the Legislative Council also passed a resolution of support.
We appreciate you taking the step of sponsoring this bill, as a first step. But we also know that unless you all actively advocate and push the bill, it won’t go anywhere anytime soon.
Please do whatever you can to help Newtown protect 6 Commerce Rd as open space. This critical habitat for endangered and protected species is also a critical buffer for Deep Brook and the Pootatuck Aquifer, and must never be paved over or otherwise developed.
Please let me know when this will be done,
Don Torrey,
Newtown
