Hattertown Road Rollover

Newtown police, the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Dodgingtown firefighters responded to a report of an overturned vehicle around 8:43 pm, Sunday, March 7.

Michael Licarie, 31, of Newtown, was operating a 2014 Audi northbound on Hattertown Road, near the intersection with Dodgingtown Road. Licarie told police that a deer ran out in front of his vehicle and that the car struck the deer, causing Licarie to lose control of the vehicle.

An investigation determined that the Audi crossed the center line, struck the southbound curb, continued off the road and struck a wire rope guardrail north of 12 Hattertown Road. The vehicle then continued back into the southbound lane, crossed the center line again, then struck the northbound curb, and continued up an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle came to rest on its roof, in the northbound lane the road, in front of 8 Hattertown Road.

Based on the distance that the car traveled, police determined the Audi was traveling above the posted speed limit.

Licarie first stated he was uninjured, but then stated he wanted an ambulance because his head hurt. Licarie was checked for injuries and then transported to a hospital.

Once the vehicle was righted by a towing company, an inspection of the vehicle was conducted. No deer fur or evidence of a deer strike was visible on the vehicle, according to police.

The case remains open, pending enforcement.
