Nighthawk Swimmers Compete In State Open

Newtown High School’s boys’ swim team was represented by its top competitors in the State Open at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford, on March 19. The Nighthawks placed 16th with 113 points among 50 squads to score in the meet; Greenwich was first with 611.

School and State Class L Championship meet record-setter Peter Horan came in third in the 100 yard backstroke race with a time of 51.12, just a bit off his best time of 50.49. Horan came in fourth in the 100 freestyle event in 47.01.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Connor Kwarcinski, Max Luci-Bernard, Matt Irving, and Horan was 11th in 3:17.19. Newtown’s 200 free relay of Kwarcinski, Bernard, Gabe Petertonjes, and Irving was 14th in 1:31.22.

Kwarcinski came in 21st in the 50 freestyle event in 22.48.
