Vietnam Veteran Offers Hope

To the Editor:

I would like to take the time to tell everyone that stops at my small fresh egg stand on Toddy Hill Road, right now we are all dealing with a severe nasty virus.

I know we are all dealing with some type of hardship. None of our doing. Self isolation is not easy.

50-plus years ago I served in the Navy on old submarines — USS Catfish 339. I worked on those hot big engines. Not easy but it was my job at that time. One time we had to do a mission, and we had to sit on the bottom of the ocean in a harbor for over 90 days! And just listen and look: Can you imagine living in a submarine? Small area with 70 men? No where to go! 90 days!

Oh, and we had to be super quiet; it was the Vietnam war.

Anyway we all will get through this. Staying positive. Helping those in need if possible. Remember the guide lines of CDC.

Prices of everything are up, even poultry feed. I am keeping my eggs at $ 4/dozen. I know and see eggs around me are $6-9/dozen. I feed the best to get the best eggs possible. And duck eggs are very limited. I believe by keeping egg prices low it can help everyone.

So, in short of this letter to all that read it, a special thank you.

You are special to me.

I have been getting very, very nice notes and text messages from all my wonderful custumers and people that stop to check it out.

Oh, one more thing — if anyone wants plants this year, you will have to drive down our driveway. Soon pansies will be ready.

I hope I will have you all to stand with me. I am here to help you all.

Please all be safe. Social isolation is not too bad. I did it in worse conditions that you all will deal with.

We will beat this COVID-19 virus. We are in it to win it!

If any war veteran wishes to join Newtown 308 Post, just ask me. I will set you up.

Thank you all for listening to me. I have been here for over 45 years. Lots of changes in Newtown and Sandy Hook, but it’s a wonderful town to live in.

Thank you all in advance. And maybe I just might meet you at my longstanding egg stand.
