Sandy Hook School Students Named

Co-Principals For A Day

It was a busy day on Monday, March 28, for Sandy Hook School first grader Ella Hage and fourth grader Keelley Kortze.

After attending classrooms, completing morning announcements, and overseeing recess, it was time for an “Executive Lunch” with students representatives from around Sandy Hook School.

Ella and Keelley learned what it takes to be principal of their school for the day, following a PTA Wine Tasting fundraiser that offered the opportunity as a bid. The winning bids, matched by both Ella and Keelley’s parents, according to full-time Sandy Hook Principal Dawn Hochsprung, will provide SMART document cameras for classrooms. Ella and Keelley’s parents knew each other thanks to both girls’ older sisters being friends.

When asked what she had been up to during her day as principal, Ella said, “Work. We did the pledge [over the loud speaker], and we went to classrooms.”

The “Executive Lunch” was held in the principal’s office, and consisted of fellow students to share ideas about what initiatives and programs could be held at the school. Despite being displaced from their jobs for the day, Ms Hochsprung and full-time Assistant Principal Jennifer Sinal also ate lunch with the student group.
