JAMALI NYC GALLERY PRESENTS, ‘TIME: SIX MONUMENTAL OIL PAINTINGS (1985–2000)’

ak/gs set 4-2 #694400

NEW YORK CITY — Jamali NYC Gallery is presenting “Time: Six Monumental Oil Paintings (1985–2000)” through May 24. The exhibition consist of six, noteworthy large-scale oil paintings, on view to the public for the first time. Select examples of smaller oil paintings and studies created during the same period will also be on view.

Each of the six totemic paintings in the exhibition posses a single masklike figure at its center, representing different inner self-states of the artist. Jamali is raw and unabashed, using organic and every-day materials to create other-worldly paintings. The figures are intensely visceral, with allusions to facial features and torsos created from bark, branches, leave and layers of oil paint.

Art critic Donald Kuspit described Jamali’s copious use of material, “Perhaps the most striking feature of Jamali’s painting is their vivid texture. It is evocative of primordial process, more so than any other surface in modern painting.”

Jamali NYC Gallery is at 413 West Broadway. For information, 212-966-3335 or info@jamali.com.
