‘WEARING WHITE’ TALK IN NYC MAY 26

AVV 3-30 #694

NEW YORK CITY — The Merchant’s House Museum will present a program, “From Cradle to Altar: Wearing White in the Nineteenth Century,” on Saturday, May 26, at 4 pm.

White clothing in the Nineteenth Century was fraught with symbolism. Especially for women and children, white often implied a subtle message about the wearer, or the occasion. Attendees can see wedding dresses and christening gowns from the museum’s collection, then join museum educator and costume enthusiast Eva Ulz as she demystifies the Nineteenth Century symbolism of wearing white.

The museum is at 29 East Fourth Street. For more information, 212-777-1089 or www.merchantshouse.org.
