‘YOUNG ARTISTS’ OPENS APRIL 21 AT KATONAH MUSEUM OF ART w/1 cut

avv/gs set 4-5 #695084

KATONAH, N.Y. — The Katonah Museum of Art presents “Young Artists 2007,” on view in the Mary L. Beitzel and The Sally and Volney Righter Galleries April 22–May 6. An opening event will take place Saturday, April 21, 5 to 7 pm.

Every spring, art teachers from the museum’s member schools select the best work of high school seniors for display at the museum. The students design their own invitation, participate in the show’s installation and host the opening reception. Some have returned years later to exhibit at the museum as professional artists.

“Young Artists 2007” will present the best work of high school seniors from schools in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess and Fairfield Counties.

Consistent with the museum’s mission of presenting innovative art education programs to the schools, both on site and in the classroom, this annual exhibition is created and installed by the students under the guidance of project directors.

Under the guidance of Lou Netter, a professional illustrator and art educator, the students also design the exhibition’s invitation and poster. This year’s poster, selected from more than 30 designs, was created by Dana Kase, a student at Horace Greeley High School, Chappaqua, N.Y.

The exhibition will feature work by approximately 300 students in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, video work and more.

The Katonah Museum of Art is on Route 22 at Jay Street. For information, 914-232-9555 or www.katonahmuseum.org.
