Brandon Moore Shows Up And Works Hard To Earn Our Trust
To The Editor:
I attended the April 2 debate hosted by the College Democrats of Connecticut who invited Brandon Moore and Michelle Embree Ku, candidates for the 106th District State Representative seat. Unfortunately, Michelle was a no-show.
I must say I find it difficult to understand why anyone running for such an important position, one that directly represents our community, would not attend an event designed to inform voters. The event included many thoughtful questions, especially from the college students, and I would have very much liked to hear Michelle’s position on issues that matter to them and to all of us.
We should be supporting civically-engaged college students, not avoiding them. What a treasure it is to have young people stepping up to strengthen democracy here in Connecticut.
This was a serious and substantive forum. The college student moderators and the audience alike brought a high level of thoughtfulness to the conversation, asking wide-ranging and often challenging questions.
Brandon Moore showed exactly what leadership looks like. He came prepared, engaged directly with every question, and demonstrated both depth and clarity in his responses. What stood out most was not just what he said, but how he approached the conversation. He listened carefully, responded thoughtfully, and treated every question with the respect it deserved.
Most importantly, his mindset was clear. Brandon said, “I do not believe I am entitled to anything in this campaign. I will work hard to earn your trust.” That sense of humility and accountability came through in every response he gave.
He showed up. He engaged. He earned the respect of the room.
That is what voters deserve.
