Carol Marie Smith (Joseph), 79, of Newtown, passed away peacefully April 15, 2020, following a battle with coronavirus and other complicating factors. Carol was born May 21, 1941, in the Bronx, New York to Louis and Cecelia (Schick) Joseph.

She and her beloved husband, John Ronald “Ron” Smith, were married in Norwalk and settled in Newtown in 1969, where they raised their two children.

Carol was very active in the Newtown school system volunteering and working at Middle Gate and Newtown Middle Schools. She and Ron also taught CCD at St Rose Parish for many years, did much other volunteer work in town, and were known to have a six-foot tall duck residing in their side yard. Carol is also remembered for her love of blue eye shadow and pink lipstick.

Carol is now reunited with her beloved husband.

She is survived by her sister Barbara Williams and her husband, Dennis, of Louisville, Ky.; her daughter Janet McKeown and her husband, Cole, and their children Jonah and Heather, of Newtown; her son, Steven Smith and wife, Karen, and their children Aneliese and Kalie, of West Friendship, Md.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews; along with many other family, friends, and caregivers.
