Goals have come in bunches for Newtown High School's boys' lacrosse team thus far this spring. The Nighthawks followed up their first loss, a 12-6 setback at Guilford on April 18, with a 15-9 victory over visiting Brookfield at Blue & Gold Stadium on April 21. Newtown has averaged a dozen goals in each of its four wins.

In the win over Brookfield, Nate Pickard led the way with five goals and two assists; Marcus Gerace netted three goals and two assists; Graham Spencer scored three times and set up another tally; Nick Stockwell registered two goals and two assists; Luke Stewart and Jack Meade both found the back of the net; and Billy Massett added an assist.

Although the team had its highest offensive output of the season, it was the work that went into producing that Coach Tony Fitti liked most about his team in this game.

"Our effort carried us through ... When we are not executing at a high level we rely on how hard we work to offset inefficiencies — solid team win," Fitti said.

The Nighthawks, after falling to defending South-West Conference Champion New Fairfield on Thursday (read about the game in the May 1 print edition of The Bee), will head to Avon Saturday at 11 am and go to Stamford Tuesday, April 28 at 6 pm for a pair of out-of-conference clashes.
