And Family
Leonard T. Palmer, 92, of Norwalk, died at Bridgeport Manor, April 19. He was born November 5, 1919, in South Norwalk, and was a son of Estella M. (Eason) and Wallace E. Palmer.
Mr Palmer is survived by his five children, including Linda Gaita of Newtown; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three siblings. His beloved wife, Dorothy (Thompson) Palmer died in 2011. A brother and sister also precede him in death.
He served with the US Army in World War II and returned home safely with numerous decorations and citations.
Mr Palmer worked for A&P Supermarket for many decades, where he retired as produce manager. During that time, he forged many friendships with community members and cherished each and every one of them.
He was a sports fanatic who loved the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He also enjoyed watching the UConn menâs and womenâs basketball teams. He was a die-hard fan of the Sacred Heart University womenâs softball and menâs basketball teams, as well as the Raybestos Brakettes, menâs and womenâs softball teams.
His greatest love, though, was his family. His love, generosity and kindness to all will be missed tremendously.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and nurses of both the Bridgeport Manor and VITAS for the extraordinary care they provided Mr Palmer during his final months.
Funeral services took place April 23. Interment with military honors was in Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport.
In gratitude, it is requested that contributions in Mr Palmerâs name may be made to Bridgeport Manor, 540 Bond Street, Bridgeport CT 06610 or VITAS Hospice, 99 Hawley Lane, Suite 1204, Stratford CT 06614.
