The Sandy Hook-based LOF Adaptive Skiers will host its annual Adaptive Water Sports Training Day for volunteers on Saturday, May 30, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, at 90 Housatonic Drive on Lake Zoar. Individuals 16 years of age or older are welcome to join the event.

The event will provide instruction on new adaptive training techniques, standard safety protocols, best practice, and working with individuals with disabilities on the water, and is essential to ensure staff and volunteers are prepared. Rain date is May 31. Signup before May 15 is required. To register, contact LOF Adaptive at info@lofadaptiveskiers.org or 203-426-0666.

Having a Safe Boating & PWC Certificate is helpful but not mandatory to participate in this event.  Training day topics will cover working with individuals with disabilities; first aid protocol; boat driving and pinning; stand ski instruction; sit ski instruction; jet ski driving and jumping; dock master role and dock jumpers; equipment fitting and maintenance; and nonfield volunteer opportunities at events.

“If you have an interest in boating, water sports, or volunteering to help children, adults, or veterans with disabilities, we hope you will join our training day event,” said LOF Adaptive Skiers’ Executive Director Joel Zeisler. “This training day is not only an opportunity to help improve the lives of individuals with disabilities, but it’s also a great way to meet other people in the community with a boating and water sports interest.”

All LOF adaptive programs are free of charge to individuals with disabilities.

“We simply could not run our clinics without our volunteers. They truly make our programs possible,” said Mr Zeisler. While most events take place on Lake Zoar, the group has many opportunities to travel throughout the Northeast with boats and adaptive equipment.

LOF Adaptive Skiers runs one of the largest and safest adaptive waterski programs for children, adults, and wounded veterans with disabilities in the country.

Founded in 1992 and located on Lake Zoar in Sandy Hook, LOF Adaptive Skiers is a nonprofit organization where children, adults, and wounded veterans with disabilities and special needs come to meet for life-changing adaptive sports experiences and meaningful connections.  In addition to waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and kayaking, LOF Adaptive Skiers offers beginner level snow ski and snowboard instruction during the winter months. LOF Adaptive Skiers is a volunteer staffed, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
