Andrea’s To Provide Free Cake For Bee Contest

Tony Posca, owner of Andrea’s Pastry Shop on Queen Street, is pleased to be the new provider of The Newtown Bee mini-page Birthday Cake Contest cake. “I’m excited about it,” said Mr Posca, adding that he thinks it will be convenient for the cake winners to pick up their prize. “We’re open seven days of the week, including later on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, so there should be no problem finding a time to claim the cake,” Mr Posca said.

For 20 years, Luigi’s Pastry Shop in Trumbull provided Newtown Birthday Cake Contest winners with a free cake. Following the announcement two weeks ago that Luigi’s would no longer be able to do so, Mr Posca said he was very happy to take over the reins.

Each week a cake winner is selected randomly from the submissions to the Birthday Cake page. The winner, said Mr Posca, can select from any of the varieties of 7-inch cakes that he makes, including flavors like chocolate mousse, butter crème, German chocolate, and strawberry cheesecake. Each cake will serve from eight to ten, he said, and will be inscribed according to the individual’s request and decorated with either frosting roses or balloons.

If the winner desires a custom decoration or design, there will be a charge for the additional cake decorating, he added. Katie Miranti is now on staff to do creative decorating.
