To The Editor:

The Newtown Choral Society played to an enthusiastic crowd as they presented their spring concert, The Joy of… last Saturday at The Meeting House. 

Enlarging on the joys we find in life through music, our director, Mary Andreotta, directed the group in a survey of popular music from Broadway to Cole Porter, including John Denver and Leonard Bernstein.  Susan Anthony-Klein, our accompanist, supported the choir with her usual professionalism and zeal, and accompanied the choir on clarinet, as well as piano. We were delighted to welcome back former accompanist Todd Gorski who impressed with two four-handed pieces, Tuxedo Junction and Copeland’s Stomp Your Foot.

We would like to thank The Newtown Bee for their support, but especially Nancy Crevier, who kept our name before the public.

We thank our ticket takers Jessica Andreotta and Khrystyna Korde.   We gathered at the gracious home of Charles and Deborra Zukowski for our after concert viewing of a recording of the event done so nicely by Charles. We also thank the members of the choir who moved our musical equipment, Clive Beddoe-Stephens, Chuck Magoulas, Keith Roberts and Dick Zang.

The choir would especially like to thank Nancy Dvorin for creating our page on Facebook and establishing our presence on Newtown Patch. 

Finally, we must thank my husband, Kenneth.  As usual, Kenneth lent his computer expertise, his patience and his muscle wherever it was needed.

The Newtown Choral Society, which is in its 26th year, will begin rehearsals for its December  concert in September.  We are a community choir and welcome new members from all area towns and have openings in all voices.   If it is your time to raise your voice in song in a supportive environment, contact me at 426-3769 or lel-choir2@se-ltd.com if you would like to discuss joining the Newtown Choral Society.  We perform two concerts a year, sing at local events and weddings and practice Wednesday evenings at the Newtown Middle School.
