The Newtown Soccer Club opened its 2003 spring season in earnest this past weekend and watched as the Girls U11 Rampage captured the championship in the Glastonbury-Hartwell Warm-Up Tournament with four wins in four games.

The Newtown Soccer Club opened its 2003 spring season in earnest this past weekend and watched as the Girls U11 Rampage captured the championship in the Glastonbury-Hartwell Warm-Up Tournament with four wins in four games.

Here is the rest of the action that took place on pitches all across the town:

 

BOYS F

 

NIGHTHAWKS 1, BOBCATS 1: John Imbimbo of the Nighthawks and Daniel Olszewski of the Bobcats scored the lone goals in this draw. For the ‘Hawks, Josh Villa and Ryan O’Keefe played well. For the ‘Cats, Brandon Marks  and Ricky Fuentes played well.

TIGERS 7, ROCKETS 5: Alexander Taylor scored two goals and Adam Oelberg scored one goal to lead the Tigers.  Tyler Roberts and Justin Adsitt-Weiner had assists. For the Rockets, Chris Robinson and Jim Mooney had two goals each and Doug Pierce added one goal. Tait Mansfield and Michael Senf had strong games as well.

ELECTRIC EAGLES 4, THUNDERBOLTS 1: Griffin Paynter scored two goals while Colin Cooper and Joe Davis scored one apiece to lead the Eagles. Sam Pliszka of the ‘Bolts scored a late goal to thwart the shutout. Ian Kirner and Dieter Gutrod both played a solid game for the ‘Bolts.

HAWKS 2, ROADRUNNERS 0: Connor Quinn scored both goals to lead the Hawks to the win. Matthew Rahtelli and James Holcomb pitched in with strong play on defense and in the midfielder position. For the Roadrunners, Justin Brophy and Jesse Pisacreta played strong all-around games. Michael Teixeira and Sean Watkins made key defensive plays, keeping the match tight to the end.

HORNETS 2, MONSTERS 1: Charlie Helgren and Eric Samuelson scored the goals that lifted the Hornets to the win. Alec Lockhart played well. For the Monsters, Keagan Lombard, Francis Saracini, and Jack Wilson played well.

GOLDEN EAGLES 4, TERMINATORS 2: Josh Barrett scored four goals to lead the Golden Eagles to the win. Tyler Coleman and Danny Bittman had solid performances and Kevin Dennis was strong in goal. For the Terminators, Stefan Dullinger and Thomas Healy scored goals. Christian Mather had a fine game.

 

GIRLS U10

 

BROOKFIELD 1, ROADRUNNERS 0: The Roadrunners kept the score low in this defensive struggle with great defensive play from Rebecca Jaroszewski and excellent goal keeping from Shannon Paproski and Casey Rutter. Kelly Anne Brophy, Julia Klucik and Sarah Attanasio played great at midfield. Jillian Jagoe also played strong at striker with several hard shots on goal.

 

GIRLS U11

 

Glastonbury Tournament

 

RAMPAGE 2, AVON 0: The Rampage captured the season-opening Glastonbury Tournament after defeating Avon 2-0. Chelsea Fay scored off a penalty kick and Sara Kelley scored off a high cross from Monica Warek. Hannah Basch-Gould, Caleigh Boyle, Laetitia de Brantes and Berenice Bryant played well while Katie Pessin recorded the shutout.

RAMPAGE 1, COLCHESTER 1: Monica Warek scored the lone Newtown goal off a long throw in by Jordyn Good. Ellen Ritzinger, Laura Bittman and Kirsten Hudock played well. Taylor Smith and Ally Modzelewski led the defense.

RAMPAGE 2, SOUTH WINDSOR 0: Kate Bowen and Chelsea Fay scored the goals that lifted the Rampage past South Windsor. Caleigh Boyle, Laetitia de Brantes and Berenice Bryant were strong in the midfield. Katie Pessin registered five saves (one on a dive) to record the shutout.

RAMPAGE 6, GLASTONBURY 0: Chelsea Fay scored a pair of goals while Sara Kelley, Monica Warek, Kirsten Hudock and Caleigh Boyle (off an assist from Berenice Bryant) scored one goal apiece. Katie Pessin, Taylor Smith, Kate Bowen, Ally Modzelewski and Jordyn Good anchored the defense.

 

GIRLS U12

 

HURRICANES 3, NEW MILFORD 1: Kasey Schulz scored two goals and Adella Cerreta added a solo to lead the Hurricanes to the win. Genna Scheuerell, Megan Hansen, and Kelley Sullivan played solid offense while Molly Curry and Katie Serock   sparked the defense.

 

BOYS U14

Samba TTP

 

Samba began the spring season on a high note, winning a championship in the Glastonbury Hartwell Tournament with a perfect 4-0-0 record. Samba defeated Maine Metro (3-0), Rochester (4-0), Farmington (3-0) and Niskayuna, New York (4-1). The team includes Brian Conroy, Mark Cinquegrana, Aron Fay, Mike Kennedy, Michael Klein, Joe Rahtelli and Jack Quinn from Newtown, all of whom made important contributions to this past weekends success.

 

BOYS U14

 

THE STORM 3, DANBURY 3: Matt Norris, Chuck Brooks and Matt Wright scored goals to lift The Storm into a deadlock with Danbury. Matt Boland had a pair of assists and Nick Kallivrousis had one. Nick Sando and Matt Yakush combined in goal for the draw.

 

GIRLS U16

 

NEWTOWN 4, DANBURY 2: The newly formed Girls’ U16 soccer team took on Danbury in their first game and came away with the win. Sarah Salbu, Sarah Gutbrod, Rachel Eastman and Emma McHugh all scored to lead the way. Elyssa Samsel, Kayla Mesko and Lindsey Weber had good games.

REGISTRATIONS

 

In house registration may be done by mail or in person. Forms will be available at Parks and Recreation and the Booth Library from May 10 to June 30. Use correct postage and mail to: Newtown Soccer Club, PO Box 193, Newtown, CT 06470. Forms postmarked after June 30th will be charged a late fee of $25 per player.

The fees for in house are $75 for G Division (kindergarten and 1st grade born in 1997 or 1998) and $100 for F, E and C/D Divisions. There is a family limit of $280 plus $20 per child for non-discountable fee. These fees include both Fall 2003 and Spring 2004.

Players registering for Travel must register in person and must register for travel program before attending try-outs. The fee is $160 per player for both Fall 2003 and Spring 2004. Try-out times and locations will be posted on the Newtown Soccer Club’s web site. Players not selected for a travel team will automatically be placed in the in house program unless otherwise requested in writing. All applicants for travel must:

 

1. Submit a small I.D. size picture

2. Sign a signature card

3. Include a copy of birth certificate if not on current travel team

4. Include e-mail address and birth date on form

 

Families with travel and in house players may register all players in person. In-person registration will be held Wednesday, May 14, 6-8 pm at the Middle School cafeteria. All travel applicants please try to use this time. Registration will also be held on Saturday, May 17, 9 am to 12 noon, at the Middle School cafeteria.
