Newtown High’s boys’ volleyball team went on the road and fell to Oxford 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21) on April 26.

The Nighthawks were led by sophomore middle hitter Warner Bacon (five kills, three total blocks, six digs, and an ace), junior outside hitter Charlie Hanson (eight kills, two total blocks, five digs, and three aces), and senior outside hitter Nico Diaz (12 kills and four digs).

Oxford outpaced the Nighthawks in the first set capturing a 1-0 lead. Newtown, however, was unfazed as the Nighthawks bounced back to take the second set despite a Wolverine comeback. Oxford came out firing to start the third set forcing a Nighthawk timeout trailing 11-4. Led by strong serving by sophomore middle A.J. Zatulskis and Bacon, the Nighthawks were able to come back, take the lead, and get as far as set point at 24-22. The Wolverines surged back scoring four straight to take the third. The fourth set started back and forth before Oxford pulled away, getting to match point at 24-17. After a Newtown timeout, and anchored by more strong serving by Bacon, the Hawks fought to within three at 24-21 before Oxford ended it.
