High School After Prom — NYS is pleased to be working with the high school PTSA on the revival of the After Prom, which will be held at the Gym at Newtown. All juniors and seniors are welcome to come and enjoy great prizes, fun, and entertainment.

Celebrate Youth Month

18th Annual NYS Talent Show — Friday, May 13, at 7 pm, in Newtown Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Come and cheer for all the wonderful talent.

3rd Annual Hat City Blues Benefit Concert — Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 21, at 8 pm, at the Fireside. Once again this talented jazz group will donate the proceeds of this evening to Newtown Youth Services. Tickets are $8.

Moms Groups

Moms of Multiples — Meets once a month at the Methodist Church Hall from 10 to 11. The group will meet May 20. There is no charge for this group.

Parent Programs

Hope and Support Group — If you are a parent with questions or concerns about your child’s possible or confirmed involvement with substances, you are invited to attend the Hope and Support group. This group meets from 7:30 to 9:30 pm Mondays in the Parents’ Corner. All are welcome.

Youth Programs

Super Sitters — The final session will be held the week of June 27 and meet every day that week from 1 to 2:30. The fee is $40, which includes all materials and snack. Please call NYS at 270-4335 to register.

Cullens Nature Camp — Back by popular demand, June 24 through July 1. Morning session 9:30 to 11 for grades K–2 (finishing). Afternoon session 11:30 to 1 for grades 3–5 (finishing). The cost is $50. Limited to 20 students per group. These groups generally fill up quickly so for further information or to sign up, call Laurie at 270-4335.

HSYAB — Will meet on Monday, May 16, at 5:30

MSYAB — Will meet on Monday, May 16, in Room A-10 at the middle school. The meeting will run from 2:15 to 3:30.

NYCAAP — An AIDS awareness group for high school students meets on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm at NYS.

WIRED (We’re Inviting Rethinking about Engaging in Drugs and Drinking) — Meets on Thursdays at the high school, from 2 to 3, in room A-111.

Children of Divorce — For children in grades 1 through 6. Usually meets first and third Monday of the month. May 16 will be the final meeting. Time is 6 to 7:15 pm.

This is an interactive group using tools such as art therapy and games. Please call for further information.

SibShops — For students in grades 1 through 6. Meets the last Monday of the month from 5 to 7. Due to scheduling conflicts the May meeting will be on Wednesday, May 18.

There is no fee for either of these two groups.

Youth Awards

The Gail Smith Awards Ceremony is Monday, May 23, at 7 pm, in the Booth Library.

We will present Outstanding Youth Awards on Thursday, May 26, at 4 pm in the Booth Library.

All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 10 Glen Road, Sandy Hook, unless noted. To register, or for further information call 270-4335.
